- Answer Not needed for regular usage. Phone is only needed to initial setup and for sync the details from watch. Sync can be done anytime whenever the phone is within range of watch. It's not necessary to have it synced daily too.

- Answer No. You can download the Fitbit app on your phone and use it free. There is a premium upgrade but personally, I have never needed the premium upgrade.
