I had issues with it not counting the steps if i was holding the bar with the hand that had the Fitbit on it. The charge2 has a heart rate monitor but you may be using the treadmill heartrate to adjust elevation or pace, so, this could be an issue.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm not familiar with the fitbit 1, but probably not. This senses arm movement to count steps, so if the arm wearing the fitbit is holding on to something it probably won't count the steps. But the Charge 2 has it's own HR sensor, that is probably no more inaccurate than the treadmill's, so why do you need to hold on?
