Yes -you will need to place the Fitbit inside a wristband that's provided. It will monitor your sleep.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You push the button and it vibrates momentarily to let you know that the clock has started and then do the same thing at the end of your workout. The small vibration lets you know that it has started or stopped the clock. You can also do the same to track sleep time.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I believe it's by the level of activity. The more steps you take the higher the intensity in active minutes. For example, running versus walking. Running will show a higher active level versus walking.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Fitbit One doesn't track the active minutes. Fitbit One tracks movement not time. The Fitbit Alta, which I have, tracks movement and time (active minutes). When you read about Active Time on the Fitbit site, it's not normal movement (walking, gardening, cleaning, doing laundry, etc.) which is given a relative score of 1, but it must be a movement duration over 10 minutes of a relative rating of 3 or better (three time more effort and activity than walking, gardening, etc.). Alta is a better choice for power walkers and runners.
