The air conditioner is not heavy. We secured it by placing a couple of supports that hold the upper window secure against the top of the air conditioner unit. This held the unit in place firmly. No drilling was required. There are holes for drilling, but we did not feel they were needed. Foam and expanding side panels helped to cover the openings. We were satisfied with the units in terms of ease of installation.
