Mine had the same error after one day of running it. You can open the drain plug at the BOTTOM of the unit and drain out any water. that will clear the error. you shouldn't have to empty that try again unless you run it in dehumidy. if the error comes back, it is defective. i had to exchange my for the same problem. the new one works great.

On page 10, it says P1 code means the bottom tray is full [as in full of water] and the solution is to "Carefully move the unit to a drain location, remove the bottom drain plug and let the water drain away. Restart the machine until the 'P1' symbol disappears. If error repeats, call for service." Since you just got the unit, it's unlikely you have water in the bottom tray, but there may be something wrong with the tray or the unit's electronics. The bottom tray is also only supposed to fill with water after extended use in "Dry" mode only. When the unit is used in Fan" mode or "Cool" mode, you shouldn't have condensation with the unit. Might try taking the tray in and out and see if it resets on its own after unplugging/replugging. You've probably tried all this. Otherwise, I'm sorry to say, there's probably something fundamentally wrong with the unit or the bottom tray. I've had the unit for several weeks and used it often in "Cool" mode with no problems and great results. I hope you get a resolution!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Draining the lower plug worked for me too on my 10,000 BTU unit. This is the 3d summer I've used it and the first time it's given a code. However, I have several indoor animals, so I have to clean it frequently especially the air filters, and about 2 or 3 times a summer, it gets so clogged that I have to take it outside and turn the water hose on the coils. Works like new again once it's flushed out. I would not recommend this type unit though over a window unit. I chose this type because I have bars on my windows, but his year, I sacrificed my security for comfort. I got a used 7,800 BTU/hr window unit, and it's far more efficient than my 10,000 BTU portable. Just sayin.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes I cleaned mine by draining the water but too I live in a very dusty humid area and the tray had mud in so I took qtipd and cleaned it all out . I had mine sitting up on a small little table so the duct would be even with my window because the windows here or higher up therefore the unit had to be placed up higher . Since this is a dusty humid area I had to clean all behind my ac and the lower part of freezer and small table it sat on bc all full of sandy and dust . I want to thank all of you bc you all have been a great help !
