Most units will put out a higher noise level on a high fan setting. The lower setting on this unit is relatively quiet. The 3 setting level is louder but that is typically used for a "fast cool" situation which is not typical. 

Also, it depends upon the acoustics of the area being used: rooms with hard surfaces such as glass will be louder than carpeted areas. This unit has a satisfactory noise level on level 1 and two.

This unit is pretty loud as well, there isn't an option on the AC to lower the intensity.
