• Yes it does I set mine to 55 and it shuts off every time.

• The Humidifier will turn on and off as you hit that preset level you want. Air is always moving in your house if you have ceiling fans or central air running. If left turned on it will cycle itself. I turn mine off when I see it's really not pulling much out of the air. I only need on high humidity days, and it really does help.
