• A grounded (3-prong) standard 110 household outlet, yes. The instructions say not to use an extension cord. (I'd say the power cord is between 4 and 5 feet long.)

• Yes, a standard 110 outlet is required. I use my 12,000 BTU to cool a 700 sq. Foot studio space. So far, it's doing a good job. I have it set up in a loft space with the cool air cascading down to lower level. The challenge is adequately cooling two closed off rooms, but with the aid of fans, it's working out fine.
