“How far does unit extend into the room? How far does the unit extend inside the window into the room. We have an open headboard that HAS to be in front of the AC unit, but it won't work if it sticks out too far into the room.”

The unit is not going to extend into the room very far... maybe a good inch or half inch but not more than that. The bulk of the unit will be outside. Remember when installing there should a slight slop to the OUTSIDE as this is what helps drain any condensation out and away from your inside.
