How does this differ from the XP 120? null

The XP 130 has Bluetooth Picture transfer while the XP 120 just has the wifi transfer. To be honest i do bluetooth share on my phone alot with other devices and it's a bit slow but i was impressed on how fast the pictures downloaded to my phone via WiFi. I own the XP120 and it's a great buy!

What app to use to transfer pics?

From my research not much of a difference. The only difference was a few more features for things like movie making and usage, oh and it's Bluetooth/ wifi capable.

I am not sure about all of the features but the wireless file transfer is why I purchased this. I could transfer the pictures to my tablet which meant I did not need to take my laptop on vacation with me. There are probably other upgrades also but I am not sure. Hope this helps.
