I'm not sure of the five months. Though, I live in Texas. If the recent weather was a fair test, I'd say yes. If you aren't comfortable leaving the device in the vehicle over long periods, the magnet mount allows easy removal. I've mounted my wife's just below the windshield's AS1 line, at the rearview on her Expedition. On install, I slightly wedged the headliner board at the windshield to place a dab of Gorilla Glue silicone on the top lip with a toothpick to act as a bumper (to keep the wire in place). Makes it easy to dismount and remount the unit without having to renegotiate wire.
