“Will this work/record without a cellphone? Does it record the speed that the vehicle is traveling?”

• The camera records to a micro sd card.. Not a cell phone. And I do not believe it records speed because it does not have GPS to track speed.

• Once plugged into your vehicle’s power source, the camera continually records, so you can just set it and forget it. To take advantage of new features like Parking Guard, Vault Storage and Live View or adjust the camera settings, a compatible smartphone is needed. This model will not record your speed.
