The mini 2 is a standalone dashcam however you CAN add another to your vehicle (separate power wiring) and then use the provided APP to manage both. Remember, there's no GPS functionality with these so you would need to use timestamp to line up both camera views and remember that you get 2 separate files. You'd also need to address each to LOCK a file set. As to usability as a rear camera for your needs, as long as you have a power source nearby OR don't mind running wires to the front, this is a great inexpensive solution. Personally, I bought a OBDII power cable for my front camera and use a power outlet in the rear of my care for the back.

I do not see in the materials provided upon purchase, that 2 cameras interface. It is a very good front facing camera. However for use as a rear camera? Not so much. Hope this helps.
