You can, I have done this in my truck. What you have to do is connect to rocker switch to a separate cigarette light power port available from autozone,(see image below, just cut off clamps) then plug the garmin power plug into that and hide it in the dash somewhere. I have mine wired to a switched 12 volt source (cruise control fuse) so it comes on when I start the truck. I have a Garmin in each of my trucks, so I'm not worried about it not being removable.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No - not without some gymnastics. You need a 5 volt in on the port, if you wired direct it would be 12 volt. Not a good idea. You could put a switch in front of the power port and turn the power point on and off that way. That would be possible but not easy if the power port is factory installed and you would still have to plug into the power point or USB . The USB might also switch on the data mode on the GPS and it would expect to upload or download data, not run the GPS. Lots of problems.
