Does this unit have the avoid highways function? null

Under settings Avoid Highways will take care of that if you put a check in front of it. Also you may want to avoid unpaved roads or not.

I wish I could give you a specific answer, but I have not had this GPS for too long so I am not sure about specific features. When I go into settings, it says it has "Avoidances", "Custom Avoidances" - add avoid road, for "Toll Roads" - you have to ask. You can also "Optimize Routes".
