Thank you for the questions! Yes, when in a traffic coverage area and the vehicle power cable connected, the Garmin DriveSmart 65 & Traffic will provide traffic updates. If the 12V DC power port in the vehicle remains on when the vehicle is turned off, then yes there is potential for battery drain. It is always recommended to unplug the power cable and device to store them while not in use.
