“im new to commercial driving and drive a charter bus its 46ft long and 53000lbs. my coworkers say to not get a trucker gps because it will take you on funky routes. can anyone explain why? this seems to be the one i should get. thanks in advance”

That is incorrect you need a truck gps. I recommend getting a garmin truck gps. Garmin gives you a vehicle profile to choose from and allows you to create a custom vehicle profile as well. However you do need to know the gross weight, axle weights, number of axles and the vehicles length, width and height. Buy selecting the bus profile garmin will use the designated bus routes. You will also need to pay attention to low clearance signs. Garmin is pretty good but never soley trust a gps its just a tool. Hope this helps
