Hi Christian, Yes, the GPS with work on its own. You will not need a cell phone to have the GPS to work. To load maps on to the fenix 5x, you will load them using a USB cord and a PC. Yes, their are maps available for all over the world. The device has 16 GB of free space on the device for mapping. Thanks Chris

Please try again later.1) Yes. 2) Well I haven't loaded any personal maps, but there is a free app to coordinate between google maps and giving directions and a live driving map to the watch [r.485 map app]. I would imagine an app and/or the usb cable could be used for such data transfer. 3) Offhand that is hard to say, but if a map file is small enough, there is onboard memory storage. Perhaps someone with personal experience could be more helpful. 4) I would imagine so, especially if there aren't personal maps, but rather publicly available topographical ones. Again, perhaps someone with personal experience could be more helpful.
