It can connect to a computer, but a computer connection is not necessary for it to work as a GPS.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The Forerunner 10 is a great watch and has a rechargeable battery. You charge it with the included USB cable. You can connect that cable to a computer or to an appropriate wall charger. While you can avoid using it in conjunction with a computer, if you do so, you won't be able to upload your data to Garmin's website or other sites such as Strava. If this is important to you, then yes, you can get by without using it in conjunction with a computer.
