There are multiple ways to create and edit a route on the nüvi 2589LMT, such as using the Trip Planner feature, detour options, and/or changing route preferences. You can also create a route on the computer using Garmin BaseCamp (a free program available at http://garmin.com/basecamp) and send it to the nüvi. ^DK
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can speak your request and it shall be done. The machine follows orders as long as it is spoken to directly. This is an all in one product. You will not need anything else. It even tells you the proper speed limit and speaks different languages.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can try 'Change Route' and then Detour and see if the route is different (many times it is not!) or 'Detour by Road' which I often use to avoid taking a route I know will be longer/more time because of more traffic lights, etc. The is also the option to set up Custom Avoidances by area or by road. This is a little clunky because it does not list the road names until you zoom up and click on a road. (This model in general does show show street names as clearly as the old Nuvi 660-680s. You could also add via points to your trip that would force it to take your chosen route.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You may have to stop and reinter your location but Garmin adjust to changes in the route.
