any maps can be added by purchasing through the software maps area.

In regards to your question about the memory/SD card you may use up to a 32GB microSD card to install additional mapping, such as Europe and South America mapping. For more information the additional mapping you can get for the Garmin nüvi 55LM, please visit www.garmin.com. Regarding the nüMaps Lifetime subscription for the nüvi 55LM, the subscription is only for the preloaded mapping installed on the nüvi 55LM, which is North America mapping. The nüMaps Lifetime subscription on the device does not grant lifetime mapping to anything other than the installed mapping on the nüvi 55LM. Garmin does manufacture transatlantic devices which have Europe and North America mapping. However Garmin does not manufacture a nüvi with North America and South America mapping. South America mapping would need to be purchased separately. {CW}
