QuestionOn the Garmin 55LM unit, does this unit have Route choices, and, if I am forced to go off the course it provides, does it re-route me?

- Answer It has a general user setting for the type of route you want it to navigate; fastest driving time, no toll roads, and a bunch of other choices. And yes, it will quickly "recalculate" when you miss a turn (or many turns) and continues to get you to your destination until you "stop" navigating. The Nuvi 55 recalculates very quickly.

- Answer The Garmin nüvi 55LM does not support the traffic feature and firmware updates will not add this feature to the device. {CW}

- Answer Great question. No, the nüvi 55LM does not have mapping of Canada. It comes preloaded with the Lower 49 States. However, Garmin does manufacture nüvi devices that have Canada mapping. {CW}

- Answer Voice command and voice prompts are two different features. With voice command, you can control the nüvi by speaking to it. Voice prompts are where the nüvi will speak to you, giving audible prompts regarding the navigation of your route. ^DK

QuestionEase of updating maps -Concerned momDo I need to purchase a SD device now and have to upgrade maps on my gps before I use it for the first time and if so is it difficult? I didn't know I would need to purcharse a gps until the last minute and will have to use it within the next day or so to get my child to the correct location for surgery. I am not computer savy at all. HELP! Please.

- Answer No need, it comes preloaded with maps. But to update you just need to USB connect to a PC, very easy.

QuestionCan I make this GPS to follow the route I would like to follow?Can I make this GPS to follow the route I would like to follow, to go to any particular destination? If possible, how do I do that? For example, if MapQuest gives me a route that I like to take, rather than this Garmin GPS is taking me through, can I download that MapQuest route into this GPS and make this GPS follow that route? If possible, how do I make the GPS follow that route when I am traveling to that destination? Thank you very much for the answer. An answer from Garmin.com people would be greatly appreciated.

- Answer Yes you can; just start your way and it will automatically go to the way you want it to go. I did that on my recent trip without any problems.

Questionis the screen easy to read in daylight with the sun on it?My windows are not tinted so if the sunlight is directly on the screen is it readable? thanks!

- Answer Yes, in our opinion the nüvi 55LM should be easy to read in sunlight. This model doesn’t use a glass screen; it’s a matte finish. ~JH

- Answer Yes, the nüvi 55LM is preloaded with mapping for the lower 49 States including Hawaii and Puerto Rico. It also includes coverage for the U.S. Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Bahamas. New Providence Island. Grand Bahama. French Guiana. Guadeloupe. Martinique, Saint Barthélemy and Jamaica. Alaska, Canada and Mexico are not included. Thank you. *CG

- Answer The Garmin nüvi 55LM, when purchased in the US, will only have mapping for the Lower 49 States. You would need to purchase the mapping that covers the area you are traveling to. Garmin provides mapping for the Republic of the Philippines and this is included in the City Navigator® Southeast Asia NT mapping. Please check Best Buy's website for availability. {CW}
