No. No additional software is needed for traffic updates. Devices that come with Lifetime traffic updates come with an integrated traffic receiver. The nuvi does need to be connected to the provided vehicle power cable to receive traffic updates, as the cable itself is also a traffic antenna. Thanks for asking. *CG
