- Answer No. No additional software is needed for traffic updates. Devices that come with Lifetime traffic updates come with an integrated traffic receiver. The nuvi does need to be connected to the provided vehicle power cable to receive traffic updates, as the cable itself is also a traffic antenna. Thanks for asking. *CG

QuestionDoes the GPS need a charging cable (TA20) with a visible lump (receiver) to have traffic work? I cannot seem to understand whether the lump is the antennae for the device that has receiver? So lump or no lump to get traffic?
