“From what I can tell from the photos, it only has a basic display showing arrows and distances (just like many 1st gen GPS's in the 90s). Can the display show dashcam images? Also, is there a way to have the GPS map displayed on the phone navigating?”

the answer to both questions is no. you can't see dash images on the device itself but you can on your phone and you can share across social media or save it to your phone (depending on your phone). you also can't see the map on the phone.
