Kathy, the vívoactive HR includes GPS, a color and bigger display, as well as GLONASS and other performance features like Auto Pause, Auto Scroll, Pace Alert and Time/Distance alert, with swimming features, cycling, Running and Golfing while both the vívoactive HR and vívosmart HR track your steps, sleep, they can also calculate floors climbed, intensity minutes and both connect to a compatible Smartphone via Bluetooth. Essentially, the vívoactive HR is designed with various activity profiles to perform different sports, whereas the vívosmart HR is for a customer who wants to track their steps and receive smart notifications. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact our support team (www.garmin.com/support). ~QKO
