The vivoactive 3 will be able to use both movement and heart rate to estimate your sleep patterns. If optical heart rate is turned off you may not see sleep data in Garmin Connect until you confirm your sleep time. Depending on the heart rate and amount of movement, the device may determine you were asleep at some point in the two hours you were lying still, but you can edit the sleep time in Garmin Connect if the sleep time is not displaying correctly.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Believe it uses both, as do many of these type of watches today. I personally do not wear it to sleep. I can say it is much better than the Fitbit Blaze I bought a year ago.
