You do not have to pair the watch to your phone or set up wifi for it to work. We do recommend syncing with your computer for software updates if you are not using the Connect mobile app to sync your data. You can use a program called Garmin Express to sync with on your computer for updates. Debbie with Garmin

However any smart crook today can access any personal information on any electronic device. I don't think there is any security software installed on the watch; and, anything connected to wifi or the internet is hackable!
