Though both the vívofit and heart rate monitor can function fine while submerged, the water will inhibit the ANT+ signal needed for the two to communicate. What this means is that the vívofit will continue to count "steps" from your repeated arm movements, but while underwater, it will not receive any heart rate information from the monitor. -JPK
