  • QuestionCan I install this microwave inside a wood cabinet?I read this microwave can be on the countertop or mounted under a cabinet. Can it be installed inside a cabinet? How much space would be needed for venting?

    • Answer Dear Mountain Girl - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. This microwave does not offer a trim kit to built into a cabinet nor a hanging kit for mounting it under a cabinet. If you wish to set a countertop microwave such as this inside a cabinet, then it should have a 3" air clearance on each side and on the top, and a 1" air clearance in the rear. In cabinet installation for countertop microwaves is not recommended without the use of a built in kit. But if a built in kit is not available, then the above air clearances are necessary. If the microwave is located near a range, a two foot clearance on the side adjacent to the range will be necessary. Microwaves cannot be mounted over a range unless they are specifically made to be an over-the-range model, with a vent included. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

    • Answer Hi Ali - Thanks for considering GE Model JES1072SHSS! These microwaves are intended for countertop use only. We do not recommend installing them in tight spaces, like a cabinet. Countertop microwaves need adequate air clearance on each side, the rear and the top to function properly. This allows good circulation for the intake and discharge air vents. We recommend 3" of clearance on both sides and the top and 1" clearance in the rear. The front edge of the microwave (measured at door) should sit at least 3" or more back on the counter or shelf to avoid accidental tipping. If located on the counter near a range, we recommend locating it at least 2 ft. away. Also, do not place near or over a heat source. You might want to consider GE Profile™ 1.1 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave Oven PEM31SFSS. This model is compatible with Optional 30" Built-In Trim Kit JX830SFSS and Optional 27" Built-In Trim Kit JX827SFSS.   • QuestionMy model JES0736 apparently runs continuously without inputting any time.door is closed and it is running with no countdown clock...buttons appear to be frozen...any idea? 18 years old with very limited use per day.

The Approx. measurements of leg/feet locations as you face unit: Between front and rear feet on left side = 6.7" Between front and rear feet on right side = 6.9" Between left and right front feet = 12.1" Between left and right rear feet = 13.3" From front left foot to left side* = 2.5" From rear left foot to left side* = 1.3" From both right feet to right side = 2.4" From front feet to front of unit with door closed = 3" From rear feet to rear of unit with door closed = 2.3" Hope this helps.   • QuestionHow do you get the control panel to aluminate

    • Answer The control panel does not have any illumination or backlighting. Also, there are no tactile indicators on the control panel to guide a sight-impaired person or, otherwise, a person with vision in a darkened room. You may need light from another source, such as the kitchen light, or perhaps a small flashlight to see and read the controls, if using this microwave in a darkened room. At the low price and other features and quality, I am happy with it, anyway.

  • QuestionIs the width 17 5/16" with the door open at 90 degrees and 17" with the door closed? I want to put it in an 18" wide space with plenty of clearance for ventilation in the back and top, but solid walls on both sides of the unit.

    • Answer Your measurements are accurate. Mine is in a cupboard with an opening of 18 1/4" and it works well. My cupboard gets wider after the opening framework. But I think you would have about 3/8" on each side.
