- Answer Hi there - Great question! The cardboard cover on the right top or side wall of the microwave interior is there by design. The cardboard (mica) covers the waveguide system that feeds microwave energy into the cavity and should not be removed. The microwave should not be used for any function if this cardboard cover is not in place. If removed, it would require service to replace. We're so glad you checked! -Mikayla@GEA

If so, you'll be pleased to know that all 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our 30" over-the-range models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" over-the-range model. We found that this model cannot be mounted under a cabinet because it is only meant for countertop use. However, GE model JEM3072SHSS does measure 0.7 cu. ft. and can be installed under a cabinet. What is meant by this microwave not having venting capabilities is that this microwave does not have vent fans that will allow it to vent to the outside or recirculate air like over-the-range models. The air clearance is needed for proper circulation so heat can escape. We hope this helps. Mike@GEA

QuestionI understand that GE does not make a hanging kit for this model, however, I want to know if it can be mounted under a cabinet using my own bolts and washers. The holes on the top of the micro are for this purpose, correct? I don't want to buy #JEM3072SHSS
