Yes. The front of the front feet (of the microwave) are just under 12" from the back panel. Your added shelf should be secured to the shelf under it and I would suggest that you drill 4 shallow pockets into the added shelf for the microwave feet to slip into in order to ensure the microwave doesnt slide around. The oven is quite light and pushing its door open button can cause it to move around on a surface.
