“Occasionally the turntable moves in a jerky motion. It moves smoothly for a few seconds then slows down to almost a stop then moves faster and smoothly for a few more seconds and repeats this throughout the cooking cycle. Is this normal?”

No. The turntable in my unit did that and then quit turning altogether. This happened the first few days after I brought it home. I took it back and got a replacement that works.
