- Answer Maybe GE will answer my question. Like you, my door is failing to open when the button is pushed. Had I seen your question and GE’s answer before I bought mine, I definitely would not have bought this model. Mine is only 1 year 3 months old. The door button started giving trouble prior to the end of the one year warranty. I didn’t raise questions due to the fact that I assumed i hadn’t pressed the button the right way. Now I am stuck with a practically new appliance that won’t work, needs to be repaired or trashed. Bad for the environment. Bad for me.

QuestionWhich trim kit should I buy for this?

- Answer I found a trim kit that may work. JX9152DJ is a trim kit for PEB9159DJ 1.5 cu ft GE microwave but dimensions (21 3/4" x 13") are very similar to JES1657. I see comments saying that this is a countertop only model but when I use the BUILT-IN and COUNTERTOP filters on GE's website, this model pops up.

QuestionHow do I use the reheat and vegetable cycle? When I push the reheat it says 1-2! When I push 1 it starts right up but I don’t know the length of the heating time and I don’t know how or if I can adjust it! Help,,,,

- Answer My microwave only came with an inadequate and fairly generic quick guide, but the full manual is available at GE's website (geappliances.com) under "support" by entering your model number. It includes details about the sensor cook modes. In Reheat, for example, 1=pasta, 2=vegetables, 3= dinner plate. But you're right; it doesn't indicate time remaining during the first portion of those cycles.

QuestionIs there a trim kit available that will work with this microwave? Also is there anywhere i can find a list of GE countertop microwaves along with compatible trim kits? this information is not included with the microwaves or trim kit installation guides.

- Answer I looked at the label, inside the door frame, and it says it’s was assembled in Chino. I searched the web and found that there is a General Electric plant in Chino, California. https://www.dandb.com/businessdirectory/generalelectriccompany-chino-ca-22218245.html If it makes any difference, this microwave is worth every penny.

QuestionIs there a way to change the clock color from green to the common blue standard color. It is what I hate with this microwave. The green throws the common clock color off in the kitchen from other appliances and looks weird.

- Answer Sorry - I don't know if there is a way to brighten the clock display. However, if your clock display is dim, you may have a defective unit. I am 68 years old, and the clock display on our unit is bright, and easily readable, day and night, from 30+ feet away.

- Answer states "Assemblied in China". Mine is only 2 years old, quality seems good, no rust. It is hard to find any appliance made in America. This is my 4th GE microwave in 20 years. This one appears better built than the others. My GE microwaves' lifespan varied from 4 years to 9 years. I just hope this one goes past the 9 year mark.
