Our upper cabinets are 14 inches tall and, with the microwave installed, we still have 15 and 1/2 inches between the bottom of the microwave and the stove. The brackets are attached to the cabinets above--not the back wall. A 2 and 1/2 inch hole was cut into the bottom of one of the cabinets so that the microwave could be plugged into an outliet that is inside the cabinet, on the backwall (a hole was cut out of the cabinet to get to the outlet).

The cabinets can be a maximum of 13" deep. The unit must be installed into at least one wall stud and into the top cabinet. You can find more information about the installation of this microwave on pages 7 - 23 of the Installation Guide. We hope this helps! Emily@GEA
