- Answer There is a known issue with this model number jvm3160..... microwave blowing door switches and tripping the breaker when door is open and/or closed. the microwave door was manufactured incorrectly which according to the manufacture causes this issue to occur. According to the manufacture, the repair is to replace the entire door assembly, the door switches, and the switch holder. The repair cost more than buying a new microwave. And we have seen it on microwaves from three years old and newer some being one and a half years old. We have tried just replacing the door switches, didn’t work. We have tried replacing the door switches and the switch holder, didn’t work. Best bet is just to buy a new microwave and we advise buying a five year extended warranty with it. Keep in mind that about 8 to 9 years ago or so GE appliance division was bought out by HAIER appliances. All appliances, especially microwaves, even the more expensive ones, are all made with cheaper parts nowadays. So getting five years of usage out of any appliance is considered normal. I would advise to get a 5 year extended warranty with any appliances you by now. so at least your appliance will be covered for five years. Stay far away from Samsung and LG appliances. You will thank me later.

However, you can change the venting to be internally vented or recirculating. Instructions for changing the venting can be found in the Owner's Manual. We hope this helps! QuestionHello. Our Over-the-Range Microwave stopped working. I am hoping to use the same brackets. It is also mounted between cabinets and I need a same size microwave. Our existing unit is a GE model JVM1750SP1SS. It appears this model had been discontinued.

- Answer Nick, I just bought model JVM6175SKSS to replace my old GE (that was at least 10 years old) and it was a breeze to install with the same bracket and hole location for the plug. All the settings pretty much the same too. Recommend

- Answer Hi Rob- All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Each microwave comes with the mounting hardware (mounting bracket, screws, exhaust adapter), top and rear templates, and installation instructions. When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts, and exhaust adapter should also be used. We suggest models GE® 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven JVM6172SKSS and GE® 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Sensor Microwave Oven JVM6175SKSS. Sensor cooking controls sense the humidity (steam) from foods cooking and automatically adjusts time and power for best cooking results. - Answer JVM6175DKWW 1.7 CF OTR SENSOR MICRO OVEN will fit in the same space exactly. We just replaced a GE Spacemaker XL last week. Even the bracket was the same.

- Answer Hi Interested - Thank you for your interest in a new GE over-the-range microwaves. Our over-the-range microwaves are designed to be vented in 1 of 3 ways. They can be vented directly out the back, through the top (which would require a vent in the upper cabinet) or if you don't have the means to vent the unit outside, they can be vented internally (recirculating) using a charcoal filter. The charcoal filter is included with the microwave. We hope this is helpful! Vikki@GEA

Convection Over-the-Range Microwave Oven PVM9179SKSS. All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Each microwave comes with the mounting hardware (mounting bracket, screws, exhaust adapter), top and rear templates, and installation instructions needed to make installation a simple process. This makes choosing a replacement microwave easy. When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. QuestionWe just purchased and installed this microwave. The very first time we used it we noticed the fan came on as soon as the cooking started. It is not because the unit needs to cool- it simply turns on every time we use it. It is loud & bothersome.

If you have not done so, please try to reset the internal electronics of the unit by disconnecting power, waiting for a few minutes, and then restoring power. If this does not help and your fan comes on each time you cook with the microwave, this may require a service appointment to further diagnose. - Answer No. This brand can ventilate within the kitchen. It's a louder vent hood meaning don't try to talk to someone in another room when it's on high. But the in-kitchen ventilation is effective.
