Q: QuestionWe just bought a ge microwave. We noticed that the surface light is extremely hot to touch. So much so I thought the stove was on. Isvthis normal?

• A:Answer Yes, it is normal for the surface light to be hot when turned on. This is similar to the heat felt from the bulb in a table or desk lamp. -Vikki@GEAppliances

• A:Answer Power levels are a percentage of "on time" for the magnetron tube which cycles on and off to obtain the various levels. Each power level gives the microwave energy for a certain percent of the time. Medium (50 percent) power is used for slow-cooking and braising food and uses microwave energy 50% of the time.

Q: QuestionMy GE model JVM3160RF5SS over the counter/stove has stopped working. That model is no longer available. I need a replacement with the exact same measurements so I can use the same mounting bracket and not have to re-do the splash board tile.

• A:Answer This model would make a great addition to your home. All 30" Over-the-Range Microwaves are approximately the same width and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our current 30" Over-the-Range microwave models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" Over-the-Range microwave model. When replacing an Over-the-Range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts and exhaust adapter should also be used.

• A:Answer I wouldn’t recommend it. We initially tried to use the old brackets and the new microwave did not sit well in them. So, new brackets were installed. Good luck!

• A:Answer The Reset Filter light will illuminate after approximately 6 months as a gentle reminder of the need to replace the charcoal filter (if used) and to clean/replace the grease filters. Reset by pushing and holding the pad for a full 3 seconds.

• A:Answer All of our over-the-range microwaves like the JVM6175SKSS offer a 3 1/4" x 10" duct opening in the same basic location on the back to vent the unit outside. If needed, the unit can also be vented out the top or converted for internal (recirculating) venting using the charcoal filter we include with the microwave.
