On economy (eco) it turns off the compressor but keeps the fan on and then turns back on. Also this is pretty quiet of an ac.

The compressor will cycle on and off to keep the room at the set level of comfort. This model offers ECO mode which controls the operation of the fan. When turned On, the fan will cycle on and off with the compressor. This may result in wider variations in the temperature. When set to OFF, the fan operates all the time to help maintain a more stable temperature. You can adjust the thermostat as needed to suit your preferences. -Vikki@GEAppliances
