Hi rainy-this is Sue from GE Appliances. Silver is a painted finish that looks like stainless. It is a cost effective alternative for a stainless look in the kitchen. Also, it is easy to clean and does not show fingerprints or smudges. Use soap and water to clean. The handle is smooth, durable black plastic. Thanks for checking with us!
