• Make sure there is NO TAPE scurrying the door, they may do that for shipping purposes

• Hi Rachel- Thanks for choosing GE! It is easiest to open the door by pressing the center of door latch release. When pressing in areas off center and further from center, the door latch is more difficult to operate. This is normal operation for the microwave.
