“A red light is on (lower right) on the control panel and it "Reset the filter" is written under it. Beneath that is "Hold 3 sec." I pushed the light/area and nothing happened. The unit seems to operate properly.”

I think you may be talking about a different microwave as there are no red lights on this model. Contact GE Customer Service. They are very helpful.
