“My washer is several years old and it has started to leak around the back of the washer where the hose connects to the wash machine and it never did it before , is this because it is old or because I dont have plumbers tape on it ?”

Plumber's tape was not required when connecting the water supply hoses to the washer. Turn off the water supply and check the hoses to ensure they have a rubber washer in each end and are tightly connected.
