Hi Becky - The power cord of this appliance is equipped with a 3-prong (grounding) plug. The refrigerator requires a 115 or 120 volt individual, properly grounded branch circuit with a 3 prong grounding type receptacle, protected by a 15 or 20 amp circuit breaker or time-delay fuse. Should be on a dedicated circuit. This is recommended for best performance and to prevent overloading house wiring circuits. See page 4 of the Owner's Manual: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-60780-4.pdf - Thanks for choosing GE! Sue
