Always install all appliances such that they are compliant with the building code. For this refrigerator, a 115 Volt AC, 60 Hz, 15- or 20- amp fused, grounded electrical supply is required. There is no harm in using a GFCI or GFI outlet for your refrigerator. However, the compressor is sensitive to temperature and current overloads, and will shut itself down with a surge. It will also restart itself. A GFCI or GFI outlet will shut off and will override this system. If there is a power surge and the outlet shuts off, your refrigerator would not restart. This could cause food spoilage. To learn more, check out the “Connecting Electricity” section on page 4 of the Owner’s Manual, which can be viewed at the bottom of the Features tab on the product page of the Best Buy website.
