“Can the water and ice be used without the filter installed?”

• There is a plug that must be installed to use water/ice without the filter. You have to contact GE for it. They sent me one right away.

• Hello - We'd love to help with this great question. The water dispenser and icemaker will not operate without the filter or filter bypass plug in place. You must use the water filter bypass plug that comes with the refrigerator when a water filter cartridge is not installed. We sure hope this helps! Have a great day. -Shayla@GEA

• Yes, and I recommend that. There's a plug provided to bypass the filters. We have are on a well but purchased an iron/calcium filter system with a new softener just a couple of months before installing the new refrigerator. The water tastes great and the ice/water system in the refrigerator works marvelously. It's like we lived in the city!
