“Just moved into our new home a couple months ago. Our dishwasher door when opening slams down unless you hold it. There is no spring to allow it from slamming open. Is this normal or should have a spring so you can open it slightly to air it out.”

The door needs to be balanced properly to open correctly. You can go on line to get the installation instructions and go to page 6, step 2:Check Door Balance. Perhaps over time the balance went off.

No this is NOT normal. The door has spring or tension loaded spring. My door opens fine. Someone needs to fix it.
