Oh gosh. The same thing happened to us, and in fact was just on here to write a bad review for GE because of this problem. They are replacing our dishwasher for free, but we’ve had a broken dishwasher for longer than we’ve had a functioning dishwasher at this point because of the slow customer service. They deemed our dishwasher unrepairable because of this issue.

What's happening is the washer frame is so frail that when you attach your brackets to the counter it pull up on the frame, deforming it. Enough that the door switch on top does not engage correctly. Unscrew the brackets and I'll bet it works fine. If so, up the leveling feet and make sure the counter brackets aren't pulling up on the tub frame.
