No, the refrigerator doesn't need to be connected to the water line if you don't want to utilize your water dispenser or icemaker. We do recommend turning your icemaker off so that it doesn't call for water and damage the motor. Please refer to page 15 in your manual on how to access the power on the icemaker. Joyce@GEAppliances
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If you dont want to use the ice maker, you do not have to connect it. I use mine in the garage and dont have a water line available and dont need the ice.
