The temperature decreases by one degree and a tone sounds with each press of the button. Once the lowest temperature is reached (34 degrees for the refrigerator and -6 degrees for the freezer), upon the next button press the temperature will jump to the highest setting (42 degrees for the refrigerator and 6 degrees for the freezer). Additional button presses will continue to lower the temperature by one degree until the desired temperature is reached.
