Unfortunately, it is normal. New GE 30" double oven installed this weekend. Racks have to be forced in, and scratched the crap out of the sides. I've contacted them and asked for new racks and/or to compensate me for devaluing the oven before its even been used.

To help your flat rack slide more easily, put a small amount of vegetable oil on a soft cloth or paper towel. Rub the vegetable oil onto the left and right edge of the racks, ensuring they're lightly coated. Using other cooking oils (olive oil, coconut oil, peanut oil, etc.) will cause a discoloring or a rust like color residue on the racks and oven cavity sides. To clean this residue, use a soap and water or a vinegar and water solution. Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth. We're always here to help if any other questions come up.
